This is a 3D scan of one of a pair of luxury leather high-heeled boots, part of the esteemed collection at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. Crafted in England circa 1870-1875 by an anonymous master cobbler, these exceptional shoes were designed to showcase exceptional shoemaking skills rather than worn as everyday footwear. They did not conform to prevailing fashion standards of their time. One of ten Museum artifacts scanned in 3D for Hack the Collection, a groundbreaking public program during the 2014 Sydney Design Festival, this unique object was paired with nine other items from the Museum's collection and assigned to ten visionary contemporary designers from Sydney. Over two action-packed days within the Festival FabLab, these talented designers worked their creative magic on the 3D object files, inventing innovative reinterpretations that wowed the enthusiastic public. Upon completion of the weekend, the designers' innovative remixes were printed on MakerBots and displayed alongside their original counterparts for all to see. We envision our collection as a dynamic source of inspiration, waiting to be transformed into something entirely new by visionary individuals like yourself. We invite you to download and reimagine our artifacts in bold new directions – we can't wait to hear about the exciting forms and uses you discover for them!
