People use chairs to sit down in many different settings, from their own homes to public places like schools and offices. These pieces of furniture have a raised surface that is supported by legs, which can be four or more depending on the design. Chairs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and are made from materials such as wood, metal, and synthetic plastics. Some chairs even have cushions or upholstery to make them comfortable to sit on. In addition to being used for seating, chairs also provide support and backrests to help people stay upright while they work or relax.
