Leary assassin pistol from "In the Line of Fire" (non-firing replica)
thingiverse
I'm making an attempt to replicate the awesome clandestine weapon wielded by John Malkovich in the film "In the Line of Fire" starring Clint Eastwood, which has always been on my mind since long before 3D printing became widely available. People envisioned creating a plastic gun that could easily pass through security checkpoints, a feat that would have violated the Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988 if done in reality in the United States. Instead, print this non-firing replica! Basic dimensions were extracted from prop photos using photogrammetry, so the only details left out are the moving parts needed to convert it into a functional firearm. Any effort to turn it into one would demand a thorough redesign, making this replica useless for real firing purposes as long as those missing features are not implemented. In the movie "In the Line of Fire," two different props were showcased: a highly detailed plastic model and another of painted aluminum that fired blanks. Even though this non-firing replica looks extremely cool, I still think it's not suitable to serve as the design for an actual firearm due to numerous reasons including its tendency to misfire, or at least explode unexpectedly when fired due to high pressure within the chamber. Therefore, do not even try to turn this into a functional one without thoroughly increasing chamber wall thickness and locking breech first.
