Unknown artisan from the northern regions of Nigeria, a member of the Cham ethnic group, crafted this earthy vessel for ritual healing purposes in traditional terra cotta style. The piece resides within the Ackland Art Museum, located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was generously donated to the institution by Charles Jones African Art as gift number 2006.35.1.
