LEAP mount for Oculus DK2
thingiverse
This mount elevates the LEAP to its highest position on the Oculus's face, making it an ideal solution for striking a balance between the LEAP's placement and minimizing obstruction of the IR tracking lights at the front of the Oculus. A modification inspired by user Irah's model, this design has been revised to provide more generous dimensions that accommodate the LEAP comfortably. This adjustment may simply be due to variations in the plastic material used and the printing process itself. Unlike its two-piece counterparts, this mount is a single, cohesive piece that retains its native orientation while printing. As a result, it produces a stronger and more flexible part, making it an attractive option for those who prioritize durability and performance. Developed by Chris Harrison of Ball State University's IDIA Lab, the final design represents a culmination of innovative thinking and creative problem-solving in the realm of 3D printing. Instructions: To achieve optimal results, it is crucial to use both raft and support options when printing this mount. Additionally, it should be printed in its current orientation, which may take longer than printing it flat. However, this approach yields a significantly stronger and cleaner piece with an enhanced "grain" quality that is sure to impress. To ensure a snug fit of the mount onto the Oculus, some manual cleanup around the pegs and snaps will likely be necessary using a sharp knife. If the piece does not fit perfectly initially, simply continue shaving away small amounts until it slips into place seamlessly.
