Leader Buddy and Pal Pack

Method: FDMMaterial: ABS+School: Kamehameha KapalamaTeacher: Mr. Mike Massad. One of my favorite things to do on my free time is to go out and fish. Unfortunately, I’m not a master fisherman. Sometimes, my hook ends up getting stuck in the rocks or one of my knots gets undone, leaving me with no swivel, leader line, weight, or hook. When that happens, I reach into my pocket to grab an extra leader line, wrapped around a piece of cardboard. When I pull the cardboard out, it’s soaked and the line got tangled because the wet cardboard couldn’t support the spool of line anymore. To add onto my frustration, the hook pops through a part of the cardboard and gets stuck in my finger. My fishing time got really irritating really quickly, and that’s what inspired me to make the Leader Buddy and the accompanying Pal Pack. The Leader Buddy itself looks like a little dumbbell with cuts all over the place. In the bottom, there is a hole and a slot. The hole is for putting the tip of the hook into, keeping it from going into your finger. The small slot is to provide clearance for the hook. After you put the hook into the bottom of the Leader Buddy, you can start to wrap your line around the skinnier section in the middle. After you wrap your line around the middle, you can just put your swivel into the channel on the top. The Leader Buddy, with its ABS+ construction, is way more durable than the cardboard, and allows you to hold your leader lines safely and securely in a piece which you can easily fit into your pocket; in fact, you can fit at least five Leader Buddies in your pocket. The Pal Pack looks kind of like a flask. Its job is to hold up to five Leader Buddies while keeping them dry. A rubber gasket can be glued onto the inside of the lid to add a layer of water protection to the Pal Pack. The lid and the body are held together by small magnets, and there are already small holes designed into the piece to allow a person to just drop the magnets in. There is a loop on the body and a loop on the lid; the point of these loops is to tie a piece of rope in between them so that the lid can be taken off the body without being lost. There are five holes in the body meant to hold the Leader Buddies. In the holes, you can place a couple of springs with the follower. When you place a Leader Buddy on the follower and then close the lid, the springs under the follower will be compressed. When you open the lid up, the springs will pop the followers, along with the Leader Buddies, up in a similar fashion to a rifle or a pistol magazine does with ammunition.
