Lead Weight Spinner

Lead Weight Spinner

thingiverse

This is a from-scratch design that draws heavy inspiration from berkey93's excellent Pulsar Spinner with embedded hex nuts: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2108748 My four-year-old son cannot play with the fidget spinner he was given because his hands are too small for it to rotate past his palm, so I created something smaller. Additionally, I have always thought that traditional "tri-spinners" with four outer bearings were a waste of bearings, as the outer ones were used solely for rotational mass. I quickly designed this spinner using lead weights for rotational mass. It uses a 608 skate bearing for the center axis and simple rectangular lead weights available at any hobby shop (or Amazon) since I do not have time to melt lead into custom shapes. The lead weights are smaller than 608 bearings, allowing me to achieve an overall diameter of 58mm, just small enough for my son to play with. To get it down to this size, the spinner uses only four lead weights, and I also made versions using six and eight weights. The weights are embedded in the spinner, so pause your print just before the ceiling of the weight cavities prints, insert the weights, and resume the print. The ceiling is at z=5.90mm. I will not explain how to pause at the right point as you either already know or can look it up (M600, Prusa colorprint, etc). If you want to print center caps for the main bearing, I recommend 2ROBOTGUY's very nice twist caps here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1802260 Here are some lead weights that will fit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015KLJE0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 As always, I have included the native Solidworks files so you can edit to your heart's content.
