Lead Pig

Lead Pig

I designed some 3D models for a lead-pig. A lead pig is thick walled lead container meant to hold radioactive materials; often rock samples or medicine. In this case, the walls are 2cm thick, the inner diameter is 12cm across, and the height can be determined by the number of rings installed. This model is made with sand-casting in mind and uses low tolerance interfaces to assemble the container. Everything is stacked together between the base and top plate and then 1/2" bolts are used to tie everything together. The lid merely sits on top and is head there by gravity. The base is broken up into two parts to allow it to be sand-cast. There's is also a mold core for for the ring / top plate to allow it to be cast more easily. I have not tried to cast the parts yet, so I make no promises as to how well or if it will even work. This is also a non-professional hobby project, so I make no promises as to how well it will work at it's intended function (radiation shielding). I'll update as I get things built. V3 Updated - I printed the V2 version and I didn't like how the stack was a bit slidey when built up. In V3 I added a lip to the top of each of the sections to help them positively lock together better.
