LEA Bicycle Light (Low Energy Automatic)
thingiverse
LEA Bicycle lights aims to solve the problem of bicycles being hit by cars worldwide. Bicycle accidents often occur due to poor visibility at night, a common issue that affects many cyclists globally. Many people do not use rear lights because they are hesitant to switch them on, replace batteries, deal with weather conditions, or risk having their lights stolen. LEA seeks to address these problems with an affordable design for an automatic long-lasting battery device. This device is fabricable in a Fab Lab and uses an ATtiny 45, light sensor, and vibration switch. The device automatically turns on only when there are low-light conditions (such as shadows or nighttime) and detects movement. During the rest of the time, it remains in sleep mode to conserve battery life, waking up occasionally to check for light or movement. A simple case design allows for easy replication with minimal components: a PCB, two AA batteries, and 3D printed or laser-cut parts (an optional aluminum case is available). The bike holder is entirely 3D printed and requires only a few screws to secure it in place. The electronic container can be 3D printed or CNC-machined from a single piece of aluminum using a three-axis CNC machine. Both parts are held together by pressure, but two holes for 3mm screws are available to provide additional security. In normal daily use, the battery should last between three and five months. The device is designed to conserve energy by automatically turning off when not in use. Components: * ATtiny45 * Phototransistor OP580DA * Capacitor 22uf * Resistor 1M * Resistor 10k * Vibration switch * LED SMD 5050 All components are standard Fab inventory except for the vibration switch and AA battery holders. LEA Bicycle lights was designed and fabricated by Eduardo Chamorro at the Fab Lab Seoul (http://fablab-seoul.org/). A video showcasing the project is available on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/193660039). Printer settings: * Printer brand: MakerBot * Printer model: MakerBot Replicator 2X * Rafts: No * Supports: Yes * Resolution: 0.2-0.3 mm * Infill: Between 10-20% Print notes: Print with supports everywhere for the seat holder and supports touching the build plate for the rest of the parts.
