Luxor Temple's Hall of Offerings boasts an impressive east wall, LE VIII, which stretches 4 registers high with upper frieze motifs adding to its grandeur. The wall is home to a total of 19 vivid scenes that tell a story of ancient Egypt's rich history. In 2018, artist Jay Heidel took the lead in meticulously documenting every detail of the East Wall using cutting-edge digital techniques from the Epigraphic Survey. This innovative approach has led to two striking models showcasing the lower two registers and featuring 8 captivating scenes in both traditional 2D (book format) and immersive 3D formats. The groundwork, including textures and underlying models, is being meticulously crafted with a blend of photographs and drawings. As this project progresses, more exciting updates will be shared using the Sketchfab viewer API and clever texture swap code from @hairystickman. For an exclusive glimpse into the artistic process unfolding on this magnificent wall, simply click on the 'emission' channel within the model inspector – revealing the vibrant drawings as they take shape.
