The Protector Palm Pistol, initially patented and built in France as the "Turbiaux Le Protector" or "Turbiaux Disc Pistol" by Jacques Turbiaux in 1882, was later produced in the United States by Minneapolis Firearms Co. in 1883. In 1892, Peter H. Finnegan bought the patent and established Chicago Fire Arms Co., contracting Ames Sword Company to manufacture 15,000 pistols for the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. However, only 1,500 were made by the deadline due to disputes between Finnegan and Ames, leading to a lawsuit and eventual settlement. The company produced 12,800 pistols in total before abandoning the design by 1910. Remington manufactured ammunition for it until 1920, while most Protectors were nickel-plated, some with pearl inlays, to prevent corrosion and came with hard rubber inserts.[1][2][3][4][5]
