Scanned at the Rodin Museum of Meudon Le Baiser originally depicted Paolo and Francesca, characters from Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy (1265-1321). The husband of Francesca caught them kissing and killed them both; as a result, they were condemned to wander through Hell.
