A historic event took place on the second day of April, nineteen eighty, which would signal the official launch of this monumental construction project. Exactly three months and seven days later, on the thirtieth day of May, nineteen eighty-one, church officials led by Spencer W. Kimball held a groundbreaking ceremony that paved the way for this architectural marvel. The public had an exclusive chance to experience and explore the completed structure from August twenty-fourth through September eighth, nineteen eighty-three, when it was officially made accessible. However, prior to its public debut, the edifice underwent formal consecration ceremonies conducted by none other than Gordon B. Hinckley between September fifteenth and seventeenth of that same year.
