52 acres make up this massive site. This stunning temple's exterior finish features reinforced concrete expertly sheathed in a remarkable 173,000 square feet of exquisite Alabama white marble. Six spires majestically rise to form the unique design, symbolizing the Church as a beacon of hope to the world. Three towers to the east boldly represent Melchizedek Priesthood leadership, while those on the west flank embody Aaronic Priesthood leadership. A total of six ordinance rooms and fourteen sealing rooms serve this majestic temple. At an astonishing 160,000 square feet, its massive floor space can be hard to fathom. Announced with great fanfare on November 15th, 1968, the site dedication ceremony would soon follow, held on December 7th, 1968. Thousands flocked for the open house event which took place from September 17th through November 2nd, 1974. A long-anticipated ceremony concluded with Spencer W. Kimball dedicating this incredible temple to the faithful from November 19th through November 22nd, 1974.
