Read the full guide on: https://learn.adafruit.com/3d-printed-electronic-sunglasses/overview This week, we'll dive into building a pair of electronic sunglasses that are truly remarkable - their dark tint is fully controllable. Between two sheets of glass lies a layer of liquid crystal material. When voltage is applied to the electrodes, it instantly turns dark and filters out intense light. The amount of voltage applied determines how much tint or opaqueness the glass achieves. This is a Liquid Crystal Light Valve - also known as an LCD Controllable Blackout Panel. It's primarily used in welding helmets where it shields eyes from extremely bright sparks.
