The crumbling remains of a hermitage stand as a testament to the life of David Lazzaretti, an Italian preacher who dared to challenge the status quo. Born on November 6, 1834, in Arcidosso, Italy, Lazzaretti's name is etched into history alongside his revolutionary doctrine, Giurisdavidismo. Monte Labbro, a mountainous region in Grosseto, Tuscany, witnessed Lazzaretti's prophetic visions and his untimely demise at the hands of the Carabinieri on August 18, 1878. The authorities' aversion to his messianic message culminated in a tragic confrontation during an elaborate parade in Arcidosso, sealing Lazzaretti's fate as the Christ of Amiata or the Prophet of Amiata. In recent years, the Mt. Amiata Project has brought together faculty and students from the University of Florence and the University of Siena in a collaborative effort to preserve Lazzaretti's legacy. The project owes its success to the unwavering support of the Municipality of Arcidosso. Through 5675 Drone and Terrestrial photos, as well as 61 Faro laser scans, researchers have painstakingly documented the ruins of the hermitage, ensuring that Lazzaretti's story will continue to captivate and inspire generations to come.
