Lazy Susan / Flat Ball Bearing - with 6mm air soft pellet

Design:

This part is meant to act as a flat ball bearing (AKA Lazy Susan) in the joint between the body and the turret on a small automated/RC tank. The 2 main requirements were sturdiness and room to let pass some cables between the 2 planes, as batteries, controller and components were distributed in different parts of the tank.

I'm including the STEP files so you can tweak it if necessary.

Mounting:

Fill the Bottom Ring groove with the pellets, around 26 or 27 (I had better result with 26) 6mm Air Soft Pellets. I used regular plastic ones.

Insert the 6000zz ball bearing in the Top Ring

Just sandwich the pellets with the two rings, and lock them with the nut (check Variants sections for more details on this). Tighten the nut until the top ring doesn't move vertically (along the shaft axis), but it can spin freely without using too much force.

The Top Ring has 6 4mm holes in hexagonal arrangement, at 18.75mm from the center. I used this Heat Threaded Brass Inserts for M3 screws to easily mount/unmount things on the Top Ring. Alternative was disassembling the 2 rings to deal with the nuts inside.

Variants:

M3: It has a solid shaft and an M3x14 screw and nut to lock the two rings together.

M10: The Shaft is threaded to hold an M10 nut, and it is hollow to allow the passage of cables between the planes.

BOM:

1x 6000zz Ball Bearing (10mm ID, 26mm OD, 8mm Width).

26~27x 6mm Air Soft Pellets

1x M3x14 screw (Variant 1)

1x M3 Nut (Variant 1)

1x M10 Nut (Variant 2)

if you go with the heat inserts:

6x Heat Threaded Brass Inserts (~4.6mm outer diameter).

Video:

Here's a short video with a spin test of the part.

Enjoy!
