The University of Canterbury student, Jacob, shares his innovative solution to a common problem: the need for a convenient beer holder while mowing the lawn. Inspired by thirst during yard work, he designed and 3D-printed an elegant yet practical holder that attaches to his lawnmower. The holder, measuring approximately 130mm high and 110mm wide at its widest point, was constructed with minimal filament for support while maintaining strength to hold a semi-full bottle securely during use. To create the holder, Jacob first modeled the relevant parts of his lawnmower before designing other components around it. The holder consists of three separate printed pieces that easily clip together. He attached printable files to share with others. Before finalizing the design, Jacob tested different clips to determine the correct rod dimension for a snug fit. However, he discovered that over time, the 'rotation stopper' may loosen, requiring a dab of glue for security. The holder was successfully printed on an FDM delta 3D printer within 6-7 hours at .25mm layers. Despite its success, Jacob acknowledges that the beer holder is currently tailored to his specific lawnmower and plans to create a more universal design for broader usage. He shares a picture of himself enjoying a refreshing beverage while demonstrating the holder's effectiveness.
