Lava Lamp Topper
thingiverse
Fits the top of of lava lamps measuring 54 mm x 54 mm. This is my first ever 3d print design! I had a spool of silver PLA loaded from another print, and happened to notice my friend's silver lava lamp had a missing top. I measured the dimensions of the top of the glass bottle that holds the "lava", and sat down to learn how to use Fusion 360 (O!M!G!). After drawing and extruding a square base, I then created a circle on the upper surface of the base, and then translated the circle to be 65 mm above the base. I then lofted the surface of the base to the surface of the circle and played around with the loft settings to come up with this weird shape. Then I chamfered the top of the circle until it was rounded. Finally, I used the shell function to hollow out the interior. (This all took several trials, including one strange print where my Fusion 360 model looked hollow (AFAIK), but PrusaSlicer insisted on creating a botton surface to the square base.) I'm posting this here as a testament to trial and error, and to document that everyone starts from square one.
