Lava Lamp Lid

Lava Lamp Lid

Jim, a coworker of mine, strolled in one day with his Lava Lamp's broken lid and asked if I could craft a replacement for him. I jumped at the chance to use my Printrbot, which I love utilizing to create custom parts for things, so I gave it a shot. This worked out well for Jim and maybe someone else will find this useful in the future. I chose red Maker Geeks PET+ as the material since this part might get a bit warm and PET+ is significantly more heat-resistant than PLA. I printed with 4 top and bottom layers, 2 shells, and a temperature of 245C. The Maker Geeks red PET+ takes on a translucent watermelon pink hue when printed out. Not exactly what Jim was going for, so he sanded it down, applied some primer, and then gave the top a coat with some rattle-can semi-flat black paint. He reports no issues with heat affecting the lid so far.
