A tool bit can be fastened in various toolpost designs including American lantern style, traditional four-sided square type, or advanced quick-change systems like multifix. The latter provides flexibility by enabling an infinite selection of tools (depending on holders available) rather than the single tool limitation of lantern design or the four-tool limit for the four-sided style. In quick-change setups, tool holders are pre-set to a fixed center height that remains unchanged even when the holder is detached from the machine.
