Lathe gouge sharpening jig
thingiverse
This is a lathe gouge sharpening jig that's very expensive online, so I designed one using CAD templates from YouTube and some calipers measurements. You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/sfmIv0iXjis. I used his template to design the jig, which isn't 100% exact but is very close, and it fits my smaller bowl gouges perfectly. I'm currently printing a second jig that's been scaled up on the y-axis by 60%, allowing for my larger bowl gouge to be sharpened. You might need to scale the x-axis depending on your orientation in Cura or slicer and rescale the handle width by 60% as well. I haven't tested them yet, so print the jig, handle, nuts, and bolts and follow along with the video to get a sense of how it's put together and used. Update 1: Printed and built first version, but the sliding path was off, so I updated the design to account for that and am now printing and testing. Update 2: New V2 is assembled and confirmed functional, showing full range of motion from both ends in new pictures. Update 3: Tested V2 and it works perfectly, with an update that fixed a slight misalignment and increased the width by 60% to accommodate my large bowl gouge. If you've already printed V2, it should still work fine with the misalignment, but printing the v3lrg could be beneficial for using on all the gouges.
