Late Woodland Pit Feature
sketchfab
The large pit feature stood nearly a meter deep from the surface, its dark depths filled with charcoal and intensely burned Fire Cracked Rock (FCR). The flames that once raged within had left their mark, causing some of the FCR to crumble when removed, while a red ring of charred earth several inches thick encircled the pit. It is evident from this model that those who created the pit had climbed down into it to dig out its sides. Dating back to the Late Woodland period, this feature was situated next to the Anderson Earthwork in Ross County, Ohio.
