These ancient shoes were unearthed during a 2016 excavation led by CAP, conducted in the area where Station Terrace once stood tall. The late 19th-century edifice served as housing for researchers visiting from MAC experimental stations, providing bachelor faculty accommodations, a trolley station, and a cozy tea room. Notably, the heels of these shoes are quite substantial compared to modern footwear designs, yet this style was not uncommon in shoe fashions like Madison, Oxford, Derby, and many others. Although the exact origin date of these shoes remains unknown, it's clear that they would have been favored by faculty or visiting researchers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Unfortunately, only the soles and heels have survived the test of time - the rest of the leather has succumbed to decay. The shoes are incredibly fragile and are held together in some areas by roots that sprouted after they were buried beneath the earth's surface. A photogrammetry model was created by Jack A. Biggs using Agisoft Metashape, painstakingly recreating these ancient relics for all to marvel at.
