Latching Bolt
thingiverse
I recently installed a door on my shed and decided to create a mechanism that would allow one of the doors to remain shut unless I specifically needed it open. The square bolts from Thingiverse only worked properly when positioned horizontally, so I designed an alternative that could rotate and secure the bolt in place. The small reinforcement bracket is versatile and can be used to hold the other side of the bolt or printed with a different orientation to enhance the overall strength of the assembly. The holes are specifically sized for #10 screws, although the chamfers are slightly shallow, which may not provide a perfect fit. The bolt measures 5/8 inches in diameter, and the hole shown in the images was created using a 5/8-inch paddle bit. This results in a fairly snug fit while still allowing for smooth sliding. Please note that this design is not intended to function as a security device; its primary purpose is to provide convenience and flexibility.
