Latch Handles & Compartment Cover, Atari 800
thingiverse
Tool-free latch handles provide easier access to the RAM/ROM compartment of an Atari 800. A RAM/ROM compartment cover for Incognito installations keeps fingers and items out, securing it with two screws. Atari 800s sold fully-populated with 48K RAM have compartment covers secured by two screws. Latch handles do not fit earlier 800s that use raised nubs on a shield meant for factory latch handles. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws and washers. Set aside and reuse the screws when installing the latch handles. Rotate latch handles a quarter-turn to lock in place the cover assembly. The cover has slots for a CompactFlash card and PBI ribbon cable, and a recess for mounting a tactile switch. After soldering wires, sleeve joints with heat shrink tube and lower the switch into the recess, twisting two wires to keep it in place. An Incognito activity LED can be soldered to a 2-pin female Molex connector. Light from the LED shines through cover vents. A model of a filler piece for the cartridge door latch and the 800's power indicator light pipe are also included. The factory cover and cartridge door on my 800 Incognito are not used, allowing me to restore the machine to its original configuration without modifications to the shell.
