Lasercut Lixie Display / Clock
thingiverse
I saw one of these 'lixie' four digit displays / clocks and wanted to have a go at making one myself. The display pieces are made from 3mm acrylic, engraved to approximately 75% depth for the numerals. The body is stacked 3mm ply board, held together with M3 bolts. The 3mm ply I buy varies in width from 3.1 to 3.4mm, so the peg lengths on the display pieces are sized to match the stock I used (you may need to change these sizes if you make it). I chose a standard 144 LED/meter WS2812B strip and can be driven by pretty much any micro controller. I built on multiple levels to decrease the width and to allow me to use straight lengths of LEDs (reducing the soldering). The CAD files contain both the acrylic pieces and the ply parts. I made it using my modified K40 laser cutter.
