USE PROPER SAFETY GEAR WHEN USING LASERS, EVEN WHEN TESTING!

So, I came over this guide on instructables by user marzsolt for mounting a laser diode on your MK3 to do some simple engraving. While the guide was great, I thought the mount was a bit complicated and it required screws and inserts that I didn't have on hand. I also did not like that it left parts on the printer when the laser was not in use so I designed my own.

For more information on how to use the laser, check the guide!

Just as marzsolt, I have included the step-files if anyone want to change the mounting holes for their specific diode.

This mount works on the MK3 (but not with the new fan mount parts "R3" or MK3S) but I see no reason why it wouldn't work on other printers with a NEMA17 motor in a similar position and enough space below, please leave a comment if you fit it on any other printer model/brand.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

i3 MK3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

10%

Notes:

I have included two different models, one has "internal" supports between the base plate and the clasping arm which is useful if you print with materials prone to warping such as ABS. If you instead print with materials prone to fusing such as PETG I would recommend the model without "internal" supports.

Both models requires slicer supports from build platform for the nut trap and screw hole parts.

I printed this in Prusas EasyABS

Post-Printing

If you used the "internal" supports model, carefully break the clasping arm lose and remove any remnants of the supports.

Use suitable screws for your diode and fasten it.

Put a cable tie in the hole and fasten the cables from the diode. Make sure that the cable tie is not in the way for the clasping arm.

Insert a square nut in the nut trap and use and m3x10 screw (can be found in the Prusa spares bag).

Category: 3D Printer Parts
