Laser Cut Wallet
thingiverse
This is my rendition of a custom laser-cut leather wallet. I set out to create this exact design and made significant changes after struggling to find an existing one. Before printing, make sure the SVG scale is accurate to avoid errors. To include a rastered emblem on your wallet, place it on the bottom left panel. Note that 45-degree cuts are sewn onto what I consider the 'bottom' of the wallet for aesthetic purposes. When preparing the top right card window, use a size equal to or slightly larger than the cards you plan to insert, as software incompatibilities like Adobe Illustrator might otherwise hinder proper importation. Cutter Settings and Materials For my version, an Epilog Mini Laser (12x24 inches at 30W power) proved efficient in cutting out intricate designs. When dealing with leather, printing a grid of potential settings and manually selecting the optimal ones for best results was crucial. To ensure smooth vector cuts and image rendering, adjust stroke width to 0.001" (1mm or less). Additional steps included adding fills where necessary. Leather used was approximately 0.05 inches (1.2 mm) in thickness; a minimum recommended dimension, given space constraints for sewn seams and overall design integrity. A clear driver's license panel is designed with flexible clear durable plastic sheet material available in your scrap supplies collection.
