Laser Cut Universal Joint
thingiverse
I'm seeking an affordable universal joint for a current project, and have been evaluating various options. A promising choice involves utilizing a plastic ball from a wall track toy, despite its imperfect spherical shape. Surprisingly, it works efficiently in this application. For the project, I will employ a low-cost 1/2" steel bearing and cut the components from Delrin, which has minimal friction. Nylock nuts on screws may be used to adjust stiffness as desired. Check out the progress video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxKQXoyVtPg. Note that the bearings in these drawings are 18.34mm (.722 in), so adjust the hole sizes according to your chosen bearing size.
