This laser cut case fits a soprano tin flute or similar sized items. The inner measurements are 12" x 1" x 1.5". Hinge and latch ideas come from that cool jewelry box. I Designed This Thing I designed this with SolidWorks to test fit the parts, then exported the faces as DWG files. I used Adobe Illustrator for print prep. Source files in SolidWorks 2015 included. Custom Cutout This cuts best on 1/8" materials like plywood or MDF. Etch black details first, thin red lines next, and finally cut thin blue ones. Boxy Things 1) Trite Bond glue was used to assemble the box parts. My hands served as clamps. 2) Standard 1/8" case foam lines the bottom of the box, with cut pieces of 3/4" case foam forming a snug pocket for the instrument. Contact cement secured it all together. 3) A light sanding job rounded off any imperfections on the box and lid surfaces. I started at 220 grit and ended with 500 grit before moving on to finer grits – patience isn't my forte though! 4) Visible box surfaces were stained and sealed using Minwax Cherry Stain and Sealer.
