Laser Cut Shuttle for Weaving

Laser Cut Shuttle for Weaving

thingiverse

A custom-designed tool, crafted to simplify the process of weaving yarn into a loom, takes shape as a replica shuttle perfect for precision cutting with a laser cutter. Alternatively, intricate paths can be extruded and 3D printed for added versatility. This innovative project is part of an interdisciplinary course at a community college, combining sociology and making skills in "Making Social Change," as showcased on https://www.flcinnovation.org/wordpress/tag/making-social-change/. To bring this design to life on the Universal Laser, users set the stroke width to a precise "hairline" setting using CorelDraw or Inkscape, or equivalently to ".001" in Illustrator. The color of the stroke is set to a vibrant RGB 255, 0, 0 for clear visibility. Using this approach, a functional shuttle can be cut from 1/4 birch plywood with ease. With minimal sanding and filing, the finished product should prove to be an invaluable addition to any community loom setup.
