This is an incredibly simple laser-cut, fully operational reciprocating rack and pinion gear system that is precision-cut from .194" (5mm) MDF and .160" (4mm) acrylic. You can use MDF for all parts, but creating the rack gear from acrylic makes it slide smoothly.
