Laser Cut Nautilus Gears - Plywood
thingiverse
Remixed from the incredible MishaT at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27233 \r\n\r\nI designed this using tinkercad, exporting as .png, then cleaned it up in inkscape to thicken areas, reduce nodes, and customize brackets and pins.\r\n\r\nThe gears were laser cut from 4.55mm plywood while the brackets and pins came from 1.55mm tongue depressor.\r\n\r\nI've tried both 3d printed (abs, pla) and lasercut versions - but I love the wood tactile feedback as I wait on hold in my cubicle.\r\n\r\nTwenty-two pre-schoolers have put this design to the test; so far no initial failures have been reported. \r\n\r\nFor extra security, you can dab a bit of wood glue at the end of the pins before installing them.\r\nMake sure to stress test your pins in the 1.55mm material before use, especially if the grain is uneven.
