Laser cut fidget spinner
thingiverse
I wanted a hand spinner with a much smoother surface than standard 3D printed ones. Acrylic seemed the best fit, but there aren't many laser cut templates out there. Converting from STL to SVG with Slic3r leaves uneven edges that detract from smooth edges. So I made my own. All four holes in this design are slightly smaller than 22mm. With the kerf of the laser, a 608 bearing snaps in without needing any glue. The picture shows it with one bearing in the middle, but you can easily add three more. This is two pieces of 1/8" acrylic glued together since that's what I had lying around. If you have 1/4" material, you can avoid gluing altogether. I hit the outside of it with a torch to give it a nice smooth beveled edge (and burnt one spot in the process). EDIT - I've added a new file with acrylic posts and grips. The posts are cut from 8mm waste material and glued to the two discs, then pressed into both sides of the spinner. They should snap in and stay without any glue. EDIT - I've also added a smaller spinner design with a post and some grips.
