Laser Cut Catan - 2 player and 5/6 player versions
thingiverse
So I had a bit of free time and decided to design some personalized Catan boards. I have access to laser cutters/3D printers at work, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get ahead on the game :). I was waiting for the expansion pack to drop and wanted to play with a bigger group, so a couple of hours in AutoCAD and here it is :). Each tile is a hexagon - side 45mm. There are different parts to download: - 2_player_board.dxf - version of Catan for 2 players based on Nick Borko rules. - 6_player_board.dxf - version for 5/6 people - tiles_with_designs_and_numbers.dxf - all tiles required for 5/6 people version including number chips there are some extra files which should make creating your own design easier The design addresses some issues I have encountered while playing the original Catan game. 1. All tiles are snugly fit together (you might want to scale up a board slightly if you prefer a bit of movement), in the original game, even a little shift was resulting in chaos on the table. In my design, the tiles sit tight together and you can move the board around without messing up your setup 2. Tiles are slightly taller than the board, I find it super frustrating to try to remove the tile from the original Catan board, these ones are slightly higher so you can grab it by the edge and remove it easily 3. Number chips are embedded inside the resource tiles, again it gets messy. Very often dice end up on the board and end up shifting number tiles. It saves time fixing them :). 4. Harbor images and trade ratio is much more visible than in original design (you can see it from the other side of the table) 5. Harbor tiles are inserted into the board - in the original version, it gets really messy with harbor tiles 6. It just looks "mine" and gives a better feel of the game IMHO I am currently designing cards which you can print yourself. I strongly encourage buying the original Catan to support the developers! Catan was originally designed by Klaus Teuber. All rights to the game are reserved by Catan GmbH and Catan Studio (https://www.catan.com/about-us/catan-gmbh-and-catan-studio-ip-policy#)
