Laser Cut Brazier

When considering an approach to the design of this brazier, my goal was to expose the potential of CNC fabrication methods, using sheet metal as the medium. Laser cut from a single sheet of 4mm Corten ‘weathering’ steel, the natural rust surface finish lends permanence to the brazier and ensures it’s harmony in any outdoor setting. This rich patina also protects the metal for a lifetime of extreme temperatures, weather, wear and tear.After being precisely folded by a Finn Power Press Brake, the brazier is finshed with an absolute minimum of three seam welds, plus small tack welds at the base for longevity. With inspiration from Ettore Sottsass’ juxtaposition of opposing shapes and form, this outdoor centerpiece combines dominant rectangular lines with a traditional circular form, as well as featuring subtle pyramids and trapezoids which entice the eye to explore the structure and discover it’s unique balance.
