Laser cut (3 mm) version of "The Amazing Dr. Nim Scale Model "
thingiverse
I'm fascinated by the Dr. Nim game as a binary mechanical contraption. I dissected the scale model of Dr. Nim and created a precision-cut version using a laser cutter. The board consists of four layers of 3 mm MDF glued together for added stability. Each flip-flop component is made up of three intricately cut layers. To minimize resistance, I crafted the trigger out of plexiglass and fashioned an axe from a repurposed nail. The flip-flops and stoppers are secured with standard M3x15mm screws and a small washer to reduce friction further. The bolds on the backside are carefully glued to the screws rather than the board, preventing them from unscrewing accidentally. I repurposed tiny scraps of MDF to create the end stops for the marbles and to secure the trigger axe in place. I sourced 10mm stainless steel marbles from eBay and Aliexpress for a cost-effective 6€ per 50 pieces.
