Las Virtudes Sanctuary and Bullring
sketchfab
The Las Virtudes site is situated six kilometers southeast of Santa Cruz de Mudela town (Ciudad Real, Spain). The sanctuary's medieval roots are evident in its architecture, although many structures within date from 16th to 18th century constructions. A notable hermitage stands out, boasting beautiful Baroque-style wall paintings that make up one of Castilla-La Mancha's most significant pictorial groups. Connected to the hermitage is a massive square bullring, potentially the oldest in existence, built between 1641 and 1722. Unfortunately, the bullring was damaged during the Peninsular War but was later rebuilt in the 19th century. The Las Virtudes sanctuary is owned by Santa Cruz de Mudela City Council, which oversees its upkeep and management. After recent restoration efforts, the site has regained its former glory and remains open most days of the week with free admission.
