The ancient Greeks revered the Sibyls (Sibilla), whom they believed possessed extraordinary oracular abilities. According to legend, these earliest sibyls were known for delivering prophecies at sacred sites. Their insightful words were said to be infused with divine inspiration from a higher power - initially at Delphi and Pessinos, where the deities worshipped were rooted in chthonic traditions. As Late Antiquity unfolded, various writers confirmed the presence of sibyls not only in Greece but also in Italy, the Levant, and Asia Minor.
