Large relief of Mithras
myminifactory
The centerpiece of this iconic relief is the pivotal moment in the myth of Mithras, as defined by traditional iconography, showcasing the bull's slaughter within a cavernous setting. Remnants of the original color palette remain visible on the marble surface. The relief was unearthed in 1964 at Tor Cervara during post-war debris removal efforts, where it is believed that an explosive ordnance blast shattered the relief into more than fifty fragments.
