Large Quarter Chess Board

Large Quarter Chess Board

A few months ago, I created large chess pieces for display purposes. This quarter-sized board was printed at its maximum size (250mm wide) and then friction welded together to form a single piece. Each square measures 62.5 mm in width. This concept can be easily modified to create a full 64-square board. In the future, I may revisit the design and create a full board that can be printed in segments and welded together. However, I also have my sights set on one of the larger format printers that have recently entered the market. There is still room for improvement in the design of the tabs that connect the two halves of the board. Initially, I had to file down the corners before welding them together. Future iterations would likely benefit from overlapping tabs, which would provide added strength to the model. Furthermore, a slightly deeper design would also enhance its overall stability.
