Large flaked stone tool made from a single piece of fine-grained volcanic rock is discovered in Site 31Dv4, Davidson County, North Carolina. The site dates back to the Archaic period, spanning approximately 8000 to 1000 BC. Measuring 195 millimeters in length and 73.4 millimeters in width, with a thickness of 12.8 millimeters, this stone tool showcases impressive craftsmanship. Donated by Herbert M. Doerschuk to the North Carolina Archaeological Collection, this uncataloged specimen is now housed at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Modelled by Abigail Gancz, this exceptional find provides valuable insights into the lives and skills of ancient inhabitants of the region.
