Common European catfish, also known as Silurus glanis in Latin, is a massive freshwater scaly fish that belongs to the family of catfish (Siluridae). It can grow up to an impressive body length of five meters and weigh a substantial four hundred kilograms, according to historical records. Famous ichthyologist L.P. Sabaneev reports on information from Kessler regarding the capture of certain individuals weighing more than three hundred kilograms in the 19th century within the waters of the Dniester and Oder rivers. An official documented record lists a catfish weighing an astonishing three hundred and six kilograms, with a length exceeding three meters, and approximately eighty years old.
