Large Bed support for Printrbot Simple Metal 1403
thingiverse
This upgrade supports a larger bed on the Printrbot Simple Metal 1403, and I have used it with a 12" x 18" bed to great success! It adds a third 8mm rod and two more LM8UU bearings to keep the large aluminum plate from sagging and wearing out the four stock bearings. I used the Stand from thing number 543482 to create the support bracket, which you can find at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:543482. I modified the bed rails from another thing, but now that I look back, I'm unable to find it; if you created those bed rails, please let me know so I can give you credit and link to the originals. Printer Settings: * Printer Brand: Printrbot * Printer Model: Simple Black * Rafts: Doesn't Matter * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.2 * Infill: 50% Post-Printing Instructions: Print the Bed Support and one left and right bed rail (with or without support cutouts). You'll need an additional 8mm rod, two LM8UU bearings, and zip ties to hold them down. I used two M5 bolts and nuts to secure the support assembly to the frame; since there are no holes, you can use a drill bit to drill out the plastic and metal at the same time for a tight fit. Depending on the size of your bed, you may need a larger foot on the back of the printer to prevent tipping. There are two versions of the bed rails: one with cutouts for a piece of 1/2" steel stock to help keep the large aluminum plate from bowing. I got this from Home Depot for just over five dollars - it's a 1/16 in. x 1/2 in. x 36 in. Plain Steel Square Tube.
