Large 3 stage planetary gearbox

Large 3 stage planetary gearbox

This design was inspired by aubenc's tiny planetary gear set, but is not technically a derivative. It was printed on an A PP3DP UP! Initially, I mentioned a reduction ratio of 12.7:1, which was incorrect; the correct ratio is 3.33:1 per stage and 37:1 at the output shaft. My purpose in designing this model was to showcase the capabilities of the UP! compared to the more expensive Dimension uPrint, as well as to demonstrate that students can experiment with mechanical models designed in Solidworks without worrying about high material costs. I've since added a ZIP file containing all components. The UP! settings used were .3mm z resolution, loose fill, and 4 layer surface depth. Most parts snap together easily, but the square shaft may be tight in the sun gear. To make the lid more accessible, sand the pins on it with 80 grit sandpaper. The handle's grip should rotate freely after removing support.
