Laptop clear frame
myminifactory
This project is a work in progress and will be completed soon. It's part of my affordable smart home series. This design should be versatile enough to accommodate various 15-inch notebooks and laptops. I salvaged an old laptop from a trash can with a broken housing. To my surprise, the electronics were still functioning after I powered it on. That's when I started designing this frame. My initial intention was to use this as a server for my DIY smart home (ioBroker), but since the display was still working, I wanted to be able to use it too. I'm fascinated by the look of electronics, so I created the back and one side using a clear acrylic sheet. This way, the mainboard and other computer parts are visible and illuminated by the backlight of the LCD panel. The display is held in place by brackets secured with M3 screws. If you remove those screws, you can easily take out the display for access to the electronics. All laptop ports are still functional and can be covered with a slider. The power plug and button are conveniently located on the right side. Two USB ports are positioned inside because one is connected to a Wemos D1 mini, which gives the server the ability to control 433Mhz devices. The wemos and the 433Mhz receiver will be mounted inside the frame. The other port will have a wireless keyboard dongle attached. Now it's standing in the middle of the room, displaying a slideshow of my favorite photos while providing computing power for my smart home. Here are the necessary hardware components: * 10x M3 5mm screws * Mounting screws and nuts for the mainboard (standoffs and hdd bracket are printable)
