Green Crag Slack 05 (Sept 2013)

Prehistoric carving found in the Green Crag Slack area of Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire.

This flat stone sits immediately south of the more famous ‘Idol Stone’ and may have once formed part of a cairn. Boughey & Vickerman reference it IAG321 in their 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’. In 2013, the CSI: Rombalds Moor project added ‘Green Crag Slack 05’ to ERA, describing:

‘…a flat, sandstone rock embedded in the ground with its upper surface almost level with the ground, measuring 0.8 x 0.77 x 0.06m high. There is a single cup on the southern edge of the rock...’
