Langleydale Common 9 (March 2006)
sketchfab
Possible prehistoric carved boulder discovered on Langleydale Common, northeast of Eggleston, County Durham. Referenced in the Eggleston East section of Beckensall & Laurie's 1998 publication "Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale". In 2008, NADRAP added "Langleydale Common 9" to ERA, describing it as a boulder with a domed profile and roughly triangular plan. The marks are located on the sloping sides, side surface, and top surface of the rock. Prominent bedding planes are visible on the near-vertical sides, some cracks having been infilled over time. The boulder may have been quarried in the past due to its possible excavation history. A possible cup and ring mark is found on one side of the rock, with two additional possible cups located on the top surface. ERA information can be accessed at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=2010. The 3D model was created from seven stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson and Keith Elliott (NADRAP Team 3) in March 2006, forming part of the full NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England.
