Langleydale Common 3 (March 2006)
sketchfab
Carved boulder unearthed near Woolly Hill, Woodland Fell area of Langleydale Common, northeast of Eggleston, County Durham. Probable carving mentioned three times in the Eggleston East section of Beckensall & Laurie's 1998 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale'. NADRAP added 'Langleydale Common 3' to ERA in 2008, describing it as follows: This boulder features a naturally flat surface but quarrying has resulted in a stepped profile. The cup marks are thought to be quarrying marks on the edges of the panel and in its center. The removed portion of rock was likely used for creating a gatepost. Some cups could be prehistoric markings, as there's a suggestion of a ring on at least one cup. ERA information available at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=2001 The model created from six stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson & Keith Elliott (NADRAP Team 3) in March 2006 forms part of the full NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England.
